About Research Stations

What we are, what we do, and how we fit into research workflows.

QWhat is Research Stations?
+
Research Stations provides access to laboratory space through a flexible rental model. We support researchers, institutions, and organizations that need short-term lab time, overflow capacity, or project-based space without long-term facility commitments.
QWhat types of projects use Research Stations?
+
We see a wide range of research and development use cases, including:
  • Academic research projects that need overflow or temporary space
  • R&D for cosmetics and product development workflows
  • Short-term work blocks that must fit within grant or project timelines
  • Teams that need a professional environment while internal facilities are constrained
If you’re unsure whether your activity is a fit, email us a brief description and we’ll tell you quickly.
QIs Research Stations the same as a consulting service?
+
No. Research Stations is a facility access provider. We provide lab space access and scheduling. We do not provide research consulting, scientific outcomes, or contract research services through the facility access model.

Booking & approvals

How requests work, what we need, and how approvals are handled.

QHow do bookings work?
+
Our model is request + approval. You submit a request with your preferred dates, space type, booking type, and a brief description of your activity. We confirm suitability and availability, then schedule your slot.
QWhat information should I include in my request?
+
Include these details for the fastest response:
  • Preferred dates & times (2–3 options if possible)
  • Space type (shared vs private/premium)
  • Booking type (hourly, full day, multi-day, recurring)
  • Brief activity description (no trade secrets required)
  • University/department if booking is institutional
QHow fast do you respond?
+
We aim to respond quickly once we have the core details above. If your request is urgent, call 416-666-3007 to speed things up.
QCan I book recurring lab time?
+
Yes. Recurring access is available depending on scheduling and space type. If you need consistent time blocks, tell us the cadence (weekly, bi-weekly, monthly), duration, and whether you require shared or private access.

Pricing & deposits

Transparent ranges, what impacts pricing, and how deposits/prepayment work.

QWhat are your pricing ranges?
+
Typical pricing ranges (depending on space type and scheduling):
  • Shared lab access: $50–$75 per hour
  • Private / premium access: $100–$150 per hour
  • Full-day / multi-day blocks: available by request
For the most accurate quote, send your preferred dates, duration, and space type.
QDo you require deposits or prepayment?
+
Deposits and/or prepayment may be required to secure your slot depending on:
  • Space type (shared vs private)
  • Duration (hourly vs full-day vs project blocks)
  • Scheduling constraints and reservation lead time
If a deposit is required, we’ll confirm the amount and payment method before booking is finalized.
QWhy do private spaces cost more?
+
Private/premium space provides increased scheduling control and privacy for work that benefits from a dedicated environment. Pricing reflects the reservation exclusivity and capacity management.

Universities & colleges

Academic credibility, institutional coordination, and Canada-wide support.

QDo you work with universities and colleges across Canada?
+
Yes. Research Stations supports universities and colleges across Canada through a request + approval access model. If you are booking through an institution, include the institution name and department to speed up coordination.
QIs Research Stations suitable for grant-based or time-bound projects?
+
Yes. Our rental model is often a strong fit for time-bound research work where long-term facility commitments are not practical. Tell us your timeline, preferred schedule, and the type of access you need.
QDoes Research Stations “own” the research or results?
+
No. Researchers and their institutions remain responsible for their work, documentation, and outcomes. Research Stations provides facility access and scheduling only.

Safety & compliance

Clear boundaries, responsibilities, and what “facility access” means.

QWho is responsible for protocols, approvals, and compliance?
+
The researcher (and/or their institution/organization) is responsible for their own protocols, approvals, documentation, and regulatory obligations. Research Stations provides the facility access and scheduling environment.
QIs this a “walk-in” lab?
+
No. Access is request + approval only. This protects scheduling integrity and ensures the space is suitable for the requested activity.
QDo I need to share confidential details about my work?
+
No. We only need a brief, non-confidential description to confirm fit and scheduling. Avoid proprietary details in initial requests.

Equipment & supplies

What’s included, what you bring, and how to handle special requirements.

QWhat is included with lab access?
+
Inclusions depend on the space type and scheduling. When you request access, tell us what you need so we can confirm what’s available for your slot. For special equipment requirements, we’ll confirm compatibility during the approval step.
QCan I bring my own materials or equipment?
+
In many cases, yes. Include a brief list of what you plan to bring and any special handling notes in your request so we can confirm suitability and logistics.
QCan you store materials between sessions?
+
Storage availability depends on your access type and scheduling. If you need storage between sessions, request it up front and we’ll confirm available options.

Payments & invoicing

How billing works, receipts, and institutional purchasing workflows.

QWhat payment methods do you accept?
+
Payment method availability can vary depending on booking type and client profile (individual vs institutional). If you need a specific method for internal processing, let us know and we’ll confirm options.
QDo you provide invoices and receipts?
+
Yes. If you require a purchase order reference, departmental coding, or special invoicing format, include those requirements in your request.
QCan a university or college pay on behalf of a researcher?
+
Often, yes. Include the institution name, department, and the best contact person for billing coordination. We’ll guide you through the simplest process.

Policies

Cancellations, rescheduling, and practical expectations for a smooth experience.

QWhat is your cancellation or rescheduling policy?
+
Cancellation and rescheduling terms can depend on your space type and whether a deposit/prepayment was used to reserve a time block. We’ll confirm the policy applicable to your booking at the time of approval so there are no surprises.
QCan I change my booking after it’s approved?
+
Often yes, depending on availability. Contact us as soon as possible with the new requested dates/times so we can adjust the schedule.
QWhat if I’m not sure which space type I need?
+
No problem. In your request, select “Not sure” and tell us what you’re trying to accomplish. We’ll recommend the best fit (shared vs private) based on your scheduling and environment needs.
